News available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Plateau State government has engaged an accounting firm to reconcile its state’s financial account including its investments in properties in the capital market.
The firm will help clean up the state’s payroll which has been contaminated with ghost workers as well as reconcile the state government’s investment in the property market.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication Muhammad Nazif told newsmen over the weekend that 579 persons have already been taken off the salary pay roll of the state due to irregularities such as over staying in the service more than necessary and placement that does not correlate with the civil service system of promotion.
Speaking, he said that 102 people have been found guilty of staying beyond their terminal dates and they be required to remit a total sum of N76, 763,551.15. Efforts are being made towards full reconciliation of all debts of the state as the State government now saves N68, 554,694.27 monthly from ghost workers.
He said that this has led to the restructuring of previous administration’s debt at a lower interest rate, as at September 2016, the total debt portfolio was N110,812,789.79 out of which N16,561,983.097 has been paid.
