Following the protracted strike action which paralysed academic activities in primary schools in Plateau state, a children’s rights group -the  Children Protection Network (CPN) has threatened to go to court to seek an injunction for the protection of the fundamental rights of children to education, should there be a repeat of the ugly strike incident.

In a statement by the group’s spokesperson, Mr. Clement Iornongu, the group said it will not hesitate to approach the courts to enforce the rights of children should there be further attempts to breach these rights by any person, authority or institution in anyway. It argued that education is a fundamental right of every child, which must be preserved with all vigour.

The group appealed to the returning teachers to ensure that pupils make sufficient progress to catch up on any grounds which may have been lost due to the prolonged strike action. It also expressed its happiness with the gradual peace which has returned to the state during the festive periods, stating that it will make a conducive atmosphere for learning.
