As the race for the Presidency hots up, the Plateau State Attorney General has lodged a case against INEC, praying the Federal Hight Court to prevent INEC from using the recently updated 2015 electoral register, but to use the previous register used in the 2011 elections.

This current suit by the Plateau State Government brings the number of cases filed against the conduction of the 2015 elections to nine. Several other independent suits by individuals and groups have been filed against INEC and the candidature of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

In the suit filed by the Attorney General of Plateau State (which had 26 other respondents), the defendants prayed the court to direct INEC to revert to the old 2011 register instead of using the 2015 voters register because of what they describe as inadequacies and flaws in the voter registration process.

Other cases filed against either INEC or Buhari include :

(1) Selekaye Victor Ben: Filed on February 11, the case seeks an order of the court to strip Buhari of all military entitlements and another order that would put Buhari under arrest.
(2) Presidential View and Endorsement Platform: Led by one Barrister Smart Iheazor, combines both Buhari and INEC. It contends that Buhari’s name on the West African School Certificate certificate recently released by his school in Katsina is different from his current name.

(3) Sergin Onuka Ibe, accusing Buhari of filing a false deposition with INEC; he seeks an order barring INEC and the APC from fielding Buhari as candidate in the 2015 election.

Several other cases numbering 9 have been filed at the High Court in Abuja and are currently awaiting hearing.
