Discontent raged on Wednesday in different parts of Plateau state over cars given to National Assembly members from the state by Governor Simon Lalong

Stakeholders were enraged by the gesture and its implication for tax payers money used in purchasing the vehicles which unofficial sources put at over five hundred million naira

Although the Governor who spoke through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Emmanuel Samuel Nanle explained that he decided to buy the luxury cars for the federal lawmakers to enable them discharge their responsibilities, stakeholders in their separate reactions rejected the Governor’s explanation saying that the car gifts have no bearing to the developmental challenges facing the state

Public Affairs Analyst and State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Leonard Audakum Vyel who blamed the Governor for approving the fund described it as misplacement of priorities and unfortunate

Also speaking, state chairman of the Social Democratic Party,Abubakar Dogara as well as the state secretary of the Peoples Democratic Movement Ahmed Sani described the purchase of the vehicles as a waste of resources adding that the action of the Governor shows that he had lost touch with the yearnings and aspirations of the people who voted him into power

Meanwhile former Governor of the state and Senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly,Jonah David Jang has dissociated himself from the purported request made by federal lawmakers in the state for Governor Lalong to purchase cars for them in aid of their legislative functions.

In a statement signed by his Senior Legislative aid, Olivia Dazyem, the senator said while he does not hold brief for other federal lawmakers from the state regarding the issue, it should be made known that at no time was he given any car by the Governor nor was he part of any collective request purportedly made by the federal lawmakers from the state for the purchase of the vehicles

According to the statement, the clarification became necessary in order set the record straight.
