Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe on Thursday retired from service after having served for about 34 years. Olakpe who studied Sociology/Anthropology at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintended of Police ASP in 1980 and rose through the ranks to the position of Commissioner of Police.

He served in various capacities including the Area Commander, Jalingo; Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja; Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State and Deputy Commandant, Nigeria Police Academy Kano among others. Olakpe was transferred to Plateau as the Commissioner Police from Abuja where he was in charge of Information Technology at the Police force headquarters.

The outgoing commissioner who spoke at the farewell parade said the police force is one of the best organisations to work with. He was full of praises to security chiefs and other stakeholders both in the state and at the nation whom he enjoyed maximum cooperation and tremendous support throughout his service year. He said that the courses he attended assisted him in the effective discharge of his duties.

“I deeply enjoyed the synergy and cooperation extended to me by stakeholders towards the fight against crime and criminality on the Plateau. This has yielded a lot of results putting the state at the lowest ebb in the league table of crime and criminality in Nigeria, he said.”

Plateau state Governor, Da Jonah Jang was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Shedrack Best while the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed, was represented by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Suleiman Fakai.
