The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State says it is expecting a mass defection of its former members from the All Progressives Party (APC).

The state PDP chairman, Damishi Sango, told newsmen in Jos, yesterday that the widening crack within the APC and the widespread discontent from Plateau people over the inability of the government to meet their development aspirations had forced those in government to indicate the intention to return to their former party.

“Our people have waited one year plus now to be fed with excuses. They can no longer take excuses from the party that promised solutions. Within the APC, there is growing discontent. The party is alienating members, most of whom, have no idea where the governor and the party structure are heading to.

“So, we are having pressure to accept people, who are already making indications. We are making arrangements to formally receive them. Our doors are always open,” said Sango.

He said with three senators, six out of seven House of Representatives’ members, 10 out of 23 House of Assembly members, the PDP remained intact in the state.

“This means the APC government of Simon Lalong cannot excite anybody to join him in that party,” he added.
But in a swift reaction, the APC state Publicity Secretary, Chindo Dafat, said the APC had won all the rerun elections in the state since 2015.

“We won all re-run elections. We don’t believe in making noise. Our party is busy with issues of governance, trying to clear the mess the PDP handed to us,” Dafat said.
