The people of Plateau North senatorial district have rejected the 6 year single term proposal of the Senate for the President and Governors. Also rejected was the financial autonomy to the State Houses of Assembly. The resolution was taken on Tuesday in Jos at the end of a one day deliberation organised by the Senator representing the zone, Mr Gyang Pwajok .

Mr Pam Davou who read the final statement stated that “We are not in support of a 6-year single term except the principles of rotation are included. We do not support that the State Houses of Assembly should receive direct funding from the federation account.” He added that “We do not support the abolition of State-Local Governments Joint Account as it defeats purpose of checks and balances. The status quo should be maintained.”

The constituents said that they do not support direct funding for the office of Auditor General and Attorney General while supporting the recommendation that the State Independent Electoral commission should receive direct funding from the federation account. They stated further “We are in agreement with other recommendations from the National Assembly, but we do not intend to pursue further, the issue of State creation”.

Senator Gyang Pawajok received commendation from the constituents for his responsive and responsible leadership qualities as he seeks to improve the lives and enhance the capacity of the citizenry.
