Plateau National Assembly tribunal reserves judgement for Plateau North Senatorial seat

Judgement has been reserved by the Plateau state National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal for the ruling on the Plateau North senatorial seat and the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. This is sequel to the adoption of final written addresses of counsels to the cases at the tribunal sitting in Jos.

Mrs Eunice Ayisa Sambo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is challenging the election of Da Jonah Jang as the Senator representing Plateau North just as Mr Yakubu Gomshar of the same APC is challenging the election of Honourable Timothy Golu as the member of house of representative for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam.

Counsel to Jang, Barrister Sunday Oyewole while submitting his final written address called on the tribunal to reject all electoral materials and result sheets tendered by counsel to the petitioner as they are inadmissible.

Oyewole added that the certified true copies of documents submitted by the petitioner did not meet the requirement by law as it was not certified in long hand and that if the documents are rejected then the petitioner will have nothing to pursue the case. He then called for the dismissal of the petition.

Counsel to the petitioner, Barrister Garba Pwul (SAN), told the tribunal to ignore the request of the respondent as the issue of document certification and admissibility were adequately dealt with at the time they were submitted. He added that statements of witnesses supported the documents which give the petitioner a valid case.
