The Project Coordinator of the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, in Plateau state, Mr Peter Gai, said that the MDGs is executing N160 million worth of Projects in Jos South Local Government.
Gai, who stated this yesterday while inspecting the projects, said that the projects were under the 2013 Conditional Grant Scheme, CGS, dedicated to four thematic areas.

Gai, who stated this yesterday while inspecting the projects, said that the projects were under the 2013 Conditional Grant Scheme, CGS, dedicated to four thematic areas.
The coordinator listed the thematic areas to include education, health, water supply/ sanitation and poverty alleviation. “We are constructing 10 blocks of classrooms in 10 different schools spread across the local government. Out of the 10 classroom blocks, five are blocks of three classrooms, while the others are blocks of two classrooms with offices for staff.
“When completed, we will furnish the classrooms with dual metal desks and chairs and will also provide text books and other educational materials for the schools,” he explained.
In the area of health, he said that the MDGs under the CGS would construct new Primary Health Centres, PHC, and renovate old ones in Jos South.
“The PHCs would be provided with hospital and medical equipment as well as drugs and reagents to make the centres functional as soon as they are completed.
“We are also intervening in the area of water supply and sanitation by sinking boreholes in different rural areas that do not have a clean source of water,” he said.
The coordinator, who disclosed that the contracts were awarded at the end of April 2014, expressed satisfaction with the pace of work as some had attained 80 percent completion.
He said that all the projects were expected to be completed in August, and vowed sanction against any contactor who fails to meet the deadline.
Gai said that under the poverty alleviation theme, three cooperative societies in Jos South would be assisted with N500, 000 each, under its conditional cash transfer.
