Plateau state independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has fixed the 30th of January 2014 as date for the conduct of Local Government elections in the state.
Mr Peter Dalyop who is the State electoral commission chairman stated this at a press briefing in Jos on Wednesday. He said, “the Commission is happy to inform all and sundry that after due consultations with all stakeholders, we have fixed the local council elections in the state to hold on Thursday, January 30, 2014.” The chairman said that five political parties would be contesting the elections state-wide.

It will be recalled that the elections earlier scheduled for December 21 was shifted after religious bodies and stakeholders frowned at the date considering it was close to Christmas. PLASIEC later consulted with Government and interested parties before coming up with a new date in the New Year.
