Let’s start a conversation on working conditions for Plateau State workers today again on LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES (LGE).
- Do you know that LG Employees (LGE) are the ones working in the remotest places?
- Do you know that LGE are only paid 55% of the 18K minimum wage ie N9900 yet they are still owed?
A little history…
Back in 2011, the minimum wage was increased to 18K and the then @PLSGov negotiated with labour to pay 55% of the minimum wage which puts it at N9900.
In April 2019, the minimum wage was increased to 30K, yet the LGE are still being paid 55% of 18K.
Let it be recalled that Governor Simon Lalong was part of the FG Committee that negotiated the 30K minimum wage with Labour and on the 15th May 2019, he made a commitment to pay minimum wage but only implemented for State Workers in Oct. 2020 (COVID was blamed).
In January 2020, LGE were assured that they would be carried along in the negotiations to be paid the new minimum wage of 30K.
Now the Plateau State Government has entered a blame shifting game between it and the Local Government Chairmen and the LGE and their dependants are left to suffer.
Before today, the LGE were not paid salaries for 2 months, yes 2 whole months in this 2020 where everything is becoming hard.
By today, after series and series of negotiations, they were only paid 1 month salary and still on the 55% of 18K minimum wage salary scale 🙆😭
This is sad and heartbreaking💔, schools just resumed – parents are facing increased fees; Food prices are very high; Electricity tariffs also high; Petrol prices also up and yes we’re in a recession, yet LGE still working are outrageously underpaid and highly underappreciated.
Dear Governor Simon Lalong please do something, people are suffering.
THEY ARE TIRED OF THE CONSTANT RHETORICS COMING FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT.
This is time to live up to the “Governor Alert” name. No more rhetorics, just act!
PS: If the Governor or the Local Government Chairmen will not see this plea, please anyone with access to the Governor or any of them, you can do well to whisper to them (please we’re all tired of the constant rhetorics)
