A youth group known as the Tarok Concerned Youths Forum has urged the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to conduct a rerun election in Jat ward of Langtang North Local Government Area.

The group said that is the only way out in resolving the inconclusive outcome of the election. It says in an alternative, the certificate should be given to Chief Dan Dul of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) as he was the candidate with the highest total number of votes cast in the last LG elections.

The group’s spokesperson, Mr Manasseh Nimkur Telzing addressed newsmen in Jos yesterday. He said “We as a group are aware that some elements of self-political warlords from Langtang North have been working hard to impose a candidate of their choice as the winner of the inconclusive elections, against the will of the people of the local government council.”

The group added “We want to use this medium to state that any attempt to impose a candidate who scored the lowest votes cast would be rejected. We are calling on this set of persons to desist from this act as this could lead to civil unrest; there is no alternative to peace.”

Telzing called on PLASIEC and well-meaning Plateau State stakeholders to disassociate themselves from political dictators who play politics as a venture and game. He said the members of the group are peacemakers but “we would certainly reject any injustice aimed at depriving us of our hard-earned votes.”
