The Association of Plateau Indigenes in the Diaspora (PIDA) on Monday urged for support to Sen. Gyang Pwajok’s gubernatorial ambition to enable him win the 2015 governorship election in the state.

The National President of the association, Mr. Golu Moses, made the call while addressing newsmen after the National Executive meeting of the body in Lafia.

The National President of the association, Mr. Golu Moses, made the call while addressing newsmen after the National Executive meeting of the body in Lafia.

He stressed that the position was arrived at after wide consultations devoid of primordial sentiments to zoning, religion, ethnicity or partisanship.

He said: “The aim of our meeting was to discuss on ways forward and on how to achieve our association’s objectives for the overall development of the country.

“Our quest in arriving at this decision to throw our weight behind Sen. Pwajok governorship ambition was informed by our collective dream for greater Plateau State where peace, development and collective prosperity would thrive for our common good.

“The association has endorsed and mobilised support for the actualisation of his dream by pulling resources together to transport their kinsmen home to cast their votes on Feb. 28, 2015.

“We will continue to drum support for him to enable him to win the governorship election in the state.”

Moses said there was need for generational change in the leadership structure of the state, to allow for the emergence of young and vibrant leaders.

He urged the indigenes of the state to eschew ethnicity, saying it was inimical to progress.

He called on plateau indigenes and Nigerians at large to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation, to achieve national development.

The National Secretary of the association, Mr. Gambo Wutek, based in Lagos, said drumming up ethnic sentiment was the last thing the state needed now.

He said that given Sen. Pwajok’s ”track record as an academic” who rose through to becoming a Senator, he had the requirements to advance the interest of the state.

“Sen. Pwajok is one who has learnt a lot from Gov. Jonah Jang and it is our belief that he would carry on with Gov.Jang’s good works in order to fight poverty and unemployment in the state.” (NAN)
