Plateau Hospitals Board Generates N144m In 2017 – CMD

Dr Velle Lohdip, the Acting Chief Medical Director, Plateau State Hospitals Management Board, said on Friday that the board generated N144 million revenue in 2017.

Lohdip gave the figure at the defence of the board’s 2018 budget, before the state House of Assembly Standing Committee on Health in Jos.

According to him, the amount was generated from fees and levies accruing from the ambulance, mortuary, antenatal bookings and other services.

He said: “In 2017, we were able to generate N144 million as revenue, which represents 52 per cent of the total amount proposed for us to generate.”
The CMD, who described the revenue performance as below expectations, called on the state government to meet certain needs of the board, to ensure optimal performance.

Lohdip attributed the low revenue figure on manpower shortage in the hospitals, noting that the board has 1,155 members of staff manning the 15 hospitals under its supervision.

He said that bookings for antenatal had been low lately due to the harsh economic situation.

The CMD was optimistic of improved revenue in 2018 as plans would be put in place to introduce the Health Insurance Scheme for all civil servants in the state.

Simon Kudu, Chairman of the committee, pledged its support to the board to enable it to perform better in 2018.
