Jos — Sanitation offenders in Plateau State are to be prosecuted in mobile courts once arrested breaking the rules of the monthly sanitation laws of the state.

The state Commissioner of Environment, Sylvanus Dongtoe, disclosed this to news men in Jos while commenting on his observation on September end of the month sanitation exercise in the state.

According to him, 200 monthly sanitation defaulters that had been arrested will be prosecuted in various Mobile Courts of Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA)

Jos — Sanitation offenders in Plateau State are to be prosecuted in mobile courts once arrested breaking the rules of the monthly sanitation laws of the state.

The state Commissioner of Environment, Sylvanus Dongtoe, disclosed this to news men in Jos while commenting on his observation on September end of the month sanitation exercise in the state.

According to him, 200 monthly sanitation defaulters that had been arrested will be prosecuted in various Mobile Courts of Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA)

Dongtoe stressed that the last month sanitation exercise in Jos was not too impressive in terms of compliance, noting that his ministry and PEPSA would not give up in their efforts towards ensuring that the public imbibes the spirit of keeping their surrounding clean always.
He stressed that the essence of the monthly sanitation was to ensure that people keep their environments neat at all times to avoid any outbreak of diseases that could occur as a result of dirty environment.

The commissioner who expressed serious concern at the condition of Kugiya Market, in Jos South Local Government Area of the state, told the traders that the Ministry would introduce Market Environmental Sanitation across the state to keep such places clean.
He however, explained that the market is going to be relocated to another area but assured the traders that before that is done, they would continue to do everything possible to ensure that the present place where the market is situated is kept clean as well as others within Bukuru Metropolis and Jos.

Also, the General Manager, PEPSA, Mr. Sunday Davou, noted that people still need to keep up the task of keeping their immediate environment clean.

He however stated the need to sensitize people a week to the sanitation day so that there will be active participation by the citizens.
Davou urged the people of the state to imbibe good habit of sanitization and called on the people to always adhere strictly and respect the official time of the sanitation which is 7am to 10am of every last Saturday of the month, adding that defaulters would be sanctioned accordingly.
