A 16-member Ramadan Committee set up by Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State and given N45 million to purchase and distribute millet, rice and sugar to members of the Muslim Ummah in the state to assist them with the Ramadan fasting, says it has acquired much of the items and started the distribution process.

Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, Alhaji Idi Waziri who disclosed this during a briefing after a meeting of the committee in Jos, said the committee had so far purchased 1,500 bags of rice, 1,200 bags of millet, and 920 bags of sugar.‎

Waziri who later took newsmen to a warehouse in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area where the grains and sugar were kept, said the distribution of the items started Wednesday, and promised that his committee would ensure that the items get to all for whom they were procured.
“Mr Governor approved the money for these food items for the Ramadan fast in keeping with his tradition of extending this gesture to Muslims during periods like this Ramadan fast and Id-el-Kabir; this is something he has done every year since he became governor,” Waziri said.
