Plateau state government on Friday said that it has confirmed two cases of Haemorrhagic fever popularity called yellow fever in the state . Commissioner of Health in the state Dr Kuden Kamshak Deyin made this known while addressing newsmen in Jos the state capital . He said On the 3rd of October 2017, reports of two suspected cases of Haemorrhagic fever was received from Bingham University Teaching hospital Jankwano, these two cases proved positive for Yellow fever and Lassa fever, these two children from the same family in Tudun Wada Ward of Jos North LGA have been treated and discharged from the hospital “. “Yellow fever is caused by Flavi Virus and it is transmitted through the bite of an infected Mosquito called aedes agypti early signs includes fever, pains in the body, back and general body weakness, vomiting, jaundice, high fever, vomiting dark urine.
He also said ” following the outbreaking the state government swung into action and provided drugs to the affected persons, 10 ampoules of Ribavirian were supplied to the hospital to treat the lassa fever patient, two cartoons of IV fluids were supplied to the two patients. The state government also supplied Personal Protective Equipment for case management, we carried out survey in the affected community to ascertain herd immunity status and contact tracing, we are currently carrying out sensitization of communities in Plateau as well as health workers in the state. The state government is carrying out Knowledge, Aptitude and Practice survey in the communities and health care providers in both public and private health facilities.
