Plateau Community Raise Alarm of being under constant siege as herdsmen kill additional 3

By Pam Moses

The Berom Community of Fan District in Barkin Ladi Local Government of Plateau has raised an alarm over a week-long uninterrupted siege, which has witnessed the killing of 3 villagers by Fulani herdsmen.

A group of stakeholders from the community led by its Leader Mr Daniel Kim, while addressing Journalists in Jos on Wednesday 23rd May 2018, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Simon Lalong to go beyond rhetoric and actually match words with action.

“We have been under siege the past week and no single security arrangement has been made. Through out Tuesday 22nd for instance – a gang of Fulani herdsmen invade our communities and took it over as they sought for people to kill, but nothing has been done.  As citizens, we know that the fundamental role of government is that of the protection of life and property, but sadly – that is not the situation for us in Fan.

Speaking further, Mr Kim confirmed that seven people were killed by herdsmen at Nding village a couple of weeks ago and that a subsequent attack led to the death of 3 people last Saturday (while working on their farm).

“The attackers were so organized that they even adopted the use of rocket launchers which were launched from Mangu area into Rambuu Village of Fan, this shows that they have a well orchestrated plan to annihilate us as part of the ethnic cleansing ongoing in the country”.

In closing, Mr Kim challenged the Commissioner of Police and the Commander of Operation Safe Haven to rise up to their responsibilities in safeguarding Plateau communities.
