PRESS STATEMENT ON KILLINGS IN PLATEAU

I, the Senator Representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator (Gen) JT Useni, note that in recent times our dear State of Plateau has once again found itself into another dark moments of violent attack by killer herdsmen that has not only tempered with the relative peace, but rather led to serious death of Children, women and the old. The attack which resulted to the death of about 200 innocent Citizens in Barikin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Bassa, Mangu and Some Part’s of Jos South Local Government areas of the State, has left an indelible devastating effect.

To condemn the heinous act of those killings is even an understatement, but to say the act is barbaric and unacceptable is just stating the obvious truth. It was indeed a saddest thing that has happened to us as People of Plateau, at a time that we are collectively recuperating out of the worst situations of our past days of such orgy happenings. I equally condemn the setting up of road blocks and killing of innocent passengers and passersby by some hoodlums who have nothing to do with the activities of these killers. At this juncture, I
wish to express my deepest sympathy to the bereaved communities and their relations in particular and Plateau People in general, over this inhuman and criminal behaviour. I pray that the good Lord will give them the fortitude to bear the burdens and losses. I wish to state unambiguously that we are at a cross road and need to find a lasting solution to the Problem. The Major cause of the reoccurrence of the crisis is impunity and injustice.

Meanwhile, i am appealing to the Federal Government to consider the complete overhaul of the security architecture of the country and bring on board the one that will ensure the safety and security of our people. Furthermore, this is the time for all of us to come together as a state to widen our tentacles towards fashioning out genuine and sincere ways of nipping in the bud such unhealthy acts, in not only the Plateau North Senatorial District, but in the entire State at large. We should always remember that when “You do good You See good”.

Once again, On behalf of my humble self, My family and the good People of Plateau South Senatorial District, i heartily Commiserate with the Government and good People of Plateau State, the entire family members of the victims praying God Almighty, to condole, and console the entire state and grant the injured ones at various locations speedy recovery and recuperation out of injuries.
