“When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it” The afore-said best captures the mood of this piece. The 2015 general elections would come and go like a twinkle of an eye. Many are yearning to see if a dramatic difference would be made in the political space come 2015. This piece is not in anyway a medium of campaign for any politician. It is infact a channel through which I could join other advocates of change and pro-democracy activists to inform the minds of plateau people to brace up to the challenge of redeeming the situation plateau state finds itself with a view to re-writing its future by voting broad-minded and God fearing leaders in the year 2015.

At this juncture, permit me to sincerely applaud the giant strides of the incumbent Governor Dr. Jonah David Jang. Plateau state has recorded significant progress and development through Governor Jang. Daily, we are seeing physical developments where there are none. I equally salute the efforts made by Jang’s predecessors who also worked tirelessly to remove the clog in the wheel of our progress.

The questions frequently asked by most plateau people are: who will succeed Baba Jang? Can his successor be fearless and courageous in dealing ruthlessly with the daunting challenges Plateau is facing? We are confused at the moment. Thus, who deserves our support?

The thrust of this piece is premised on helping to forge the way forward in order to institutionalize and rekindle hope so we could achieve the plateau of our dream and lead her towards a more prosperous and secure future. As a matter of fact, to be a Governor especially in a more complex and sophisticated state like Plateau is deeply herculean and brutally challenging. You’ve got to work day and night tirelessly, you’ve got to deny yourself pleasures and sometimes food so you could have ample time to consult widely and plan strategically with wisdom as cornerstone

The overriding aim of political gladiators jostling for political positions should be to set the masses free from the shackles of despondency by putting food on their table and wiping off their tears. Also, to ensure that development reaches the people at the grassroot and allow the dividends of democracy to be felt overwhelmingly. Plateau people are yearning for a purpose-driven politician, a democrat with a conscience, a person who would build on the legacies of our heroes past and run a true, faithful and just government with sincerity of purpose as guiding principle. Indeed, we need a person that will show us the way and change our story. Who could that person be, I ask rhetorically? Who indeed deserves our support? Is it Dr. Daniel Kutchin, Amb. Nanven Goselle, Sen. Victor Lar, Prof. Sunny Tyoden, Comrade Nicholas Kemi Nshe, Prof. Longmas Wapmuk, Prof. Emmanuel Garba, Chief Joe Bitrus Musa, Hon. Pauline Tallen, Prof. Nenfort Gomwalk, Amb. Ignatius Longjan, Prof. Shadrach Best, Arch. John Alkali, Dr. Haruna Dabin, Nde Hezekiah Dimka, Eng. Jimmy Z. Cheto, Mr. Francis Bot, Amb. Chris Giwa, Rt. hon. George Daika or Nde John Gobak? Plateau people would answer the question overwhelmingly when the time is ripe. “When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it”. And again, when the chips are down, we will know our political direction. I sincerely wish Plateau state well especially in this trying moment where ethno-religious disturbances are rocking the Southern part of the state. I call on all Plateau patriots to rise on their feet in order to reposition and engender the progress of our state. Let us continue to pray without ceasing and keep hope alive.
God bless Plateau State
