As the zoning furore in Plateau state continues to hot-up, the coalition of Youths of all the tribes in the Plateau South senatorial zone (i.e., comprising Langtang North, Langtang South, Mikang, Qu’anpan, Wase and Shendam LGAs) have on Tuesday demanded that the Governorship slot be zoned to the area in the forth coming 2015 elections. Their demand was contained in a communique signed by the Chairman of the coalition, Mr Nuhu Musa and Secretary, Mr Yilmiap Marcellinus in Shendam after a meeting.
They stated in their communique that their call became imperative because the zone was facing security and development challenges. They said “We the youths of Plateau South believe that if the governorship is zoned to us, the security and developmental challenges of the zone will squarely be tackled. “Looking at the political situation of the state, we are of the belief that Plateau South should produce the next governor. This will be most appropriate and it will give a better picture of true democracy in the state, ” They further said that the gathering of young minds of the different ethnicities (as they have done) was a demonstration of their collective opinion that the zone must be considered for the post.
They argued that each zone has had its fair share of the leadership of the state since 1980 and it was now due the Southern Senatorial zone. They said it would not be fair for the Governorship to commence from another zone, given that they had not been in that elective position since the era of Sir Fidelis Tapgun in the early 90’s.
