The National Association of Building Students has conferred an award of Excellence on the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos for his meritorious service in the building profession and public service.

Presenting the award, the National President of the Association Comrade Shaibu Anthony who was accompanied by his Vice President and Secretary together with the Chapter President of the Association in University of Jo’s Comrade Omale Attayi said the choice of Professor Izam was borne out of his sterling contributions to the Country’s building environment.

Comrade Shaibu added that Professor Izam who also doubles as the second Vice President of the Nigeria Institute of Building has made notable contributions in the Nation’s building space spanning from the provision of academic leadership as a university Don to his dogged disposition on standardization and above all the mentoring of younger professionals.

He thanked Professor Izam for the significant role he played in the successful hosting of the 2019 Students Annual General Meeting of the Association held at Akure recently.

In the same vein, President of the National Association of Building Students, University of Jo’s Chapter Comrade Omale Attayi said the news of the appointment of Professor Izam as the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, did not come to them as a surprise because of the legacies he bequeathed the Building Department  during his tenure as its Head of Department.

He pointed out that Professor Izam was the first Head of Department to enrol graduating students into membership of the Nigerian Institute of Building which guarantees seamless transition from studentship to professional status.

Comrade Attayi observed that this regime has provided the students an opportunity to understand the convergence between theory and practice as future leaders in the industry. He also appealed to the Vice Chancellor to continue to extend his mentoring hands to the department.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam appreciated them for the award saying that this set of National Executives are special to him because he was instrumental in their emergence as the chairman of Bauchi 2017 where he presided over their elections.

He charged them to embraced professionalism in the country’s building administration as future leaders.This according to him is necessary to protect the integrity of the profession and prevent quacks from giving members of the profession a bad name.

Professor Izam also congratulated the President of the Jos chapter of the Association for the full accreditation of the Building Department and pledged to always support the Department to keep soaring higher.He assured them of operating an open door policy and reiterated his commitment in executing some of the projects he started when he was the Head of Department.
