Prof. Yohanna Izam, the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, says the institution will plant 1,500 trees to mark this year’s World Environment Day on June 5.

The vice chancellor said this on Friday in Bokkos while receiving a delegation led by Prof. Daniel Davou, the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Jos.

“This year, we admitted 1,500 students for the 2017/2018 academic session and to celebrate this year’s Environment Day, each student must plant a tree on that day (the 5^th of June 2018).

“The gesture is to show our concern in making our environment greenish and protective, hence celebrating the Environment Day in a unique way’’ he said.

Izam said that apart from the lecture that would hold that day, the institution would launch a world-class weather station donated by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

He said that he was happy over the land design of the university’s masterplan presented to him by the delegation. The vice chancellor, however, solicited for the assistance of the delegation in facilitating the implementation of the plan.

He said that his priority was to make the university a world-class academic institution. Earlier, Davou had congratulated the vice chancellor on his appointment and gave an assurance of support and cooperation.

“We are aware that the task to put PLASU on the road map to a world-class university is not easy considering the challenges of finance and other logistics. “But we are ready to give you the necessary assistance to succeed,’’ he said. (NAN)
