Pictures: Protest of Plateau Killings in London, UK

The Plateau State Association UK, today Friday 6th July 2018, staged a protest to spotlight the atrocities and killings on the Plateau.

Meeting at Trafalgar Square, London at 9:30am the group which comprised Plateau citizens resident in the UK and other Middle-belt groups then proceeded to Nigerian High Commission on Northumberland Avenue and protested for several hours.

At the high commission, the group was received by the Nigerian High Commissioner, Ambassador George Adesola Oguntade CFR, CON. He expressed satisfaction at the peaceful nature of the protest and promised to communicate the group’s message -which was handed in a letter, to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The procession then proceeded to the UK prime minister’s office at No 10 Downing Street, where they protested and prepared to submit a protest letter to Theresa May, the UK Prime Minister in order to put pressure on the Nigerian Government to end it’s tepid handling of the killings.

As well as the protest in London, Plateau people resident in Manchester also staged a protest in the Manchester City Centre in support of the victims of the Plateau attacks.

In the same vein, Plateau citizens in the US are currently organizing a protest slated for 13th July at 3 different Nigerian consulates and embassies in Washington DC, New York and Atlanta.

These protests are coming at a critical time when the Plateau State Government has placed a ban on all protests and processions in Jos – thus, making it even more poignant that diaspora communities do everything possible to protest and draw international attention to the killings.
