Pictures of Plateau APC Congress: How it all transpired, Letep Dabang returned as Chairman

The congress of the Plateau APC went ahead relatively smoothly this afternoon.

Our reporters who were present report that the congress which commenced around midday at the Crest Hotel Jos witnessed several office aspirants step down for others ahead of the congresses.

In total, 6 offices were being contested, however at the start of the congresses, the candidates who were contesting against the incumbent office holders, stepped down and rallied around the office holders. As such the entire state Exco was returned by consensus and affirmation.

In the case of the office of the State Chairman, the incumbent, Hon Letep Dabang was gunning for the seat against Mr Podar Johnson. Mr Johnson had refused to step down even though numerous appeals were made. However, before the commencement of the congress, the electoral umpires ultimately disqualified him having found irregularities in his registration at the ward level. As such, he was ushered out of the venue and a unanimous voice vote was taken to adopt Hon Letep Dabang as substantive Chairman. In total, 1239 delegates participated in the congress.

At the congress, the Governor – Barr Simon Lalong expressed happiness as the fair trading and consensus approach whilst appealing that everyone puts their hands on deck as the politicking period picks up.

Also at the event were notable personalities – the Senator representing Plateau Central, Chief Joshua Dariye, Amb Yahaya Kwande, Amb Ignatius Longjan, Hon Edward Pwajok, commissioners and party chieftains.

Notably absent however, was the minister of youth and sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung – whom in the past has had numerous run-ins with both the Governor and the leadership of the Plateau State APC.
