Reports reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that two women were this morning shot dead by soldiers at Heipang, Barkin Ladi LGA.
An eyewitness Mr. Job Pam who spoke to ViewPointNigeria’s correspondent at the scene of the incident said the soldiers arrived Heipang this morning at 8am, saying they had been instructed to setup a roadblock at the railway crossing in the area.
The residents of the village, having suffered several attacks from people dressed in military regalia, resisted vehemently, asking the soldiers to leave because they were unsure if their presence could end in tragedy as has happened in the past. They community said they’d rather have mobile policemen in the area as opposed to soldiers.
As the heated exchanges were going on, one of the soldiers opened fire, instantly killing a woman selling roasted maize by the road side and another bystander who just returned from the farm.
Heipang village has witnessed several killings and attacks in the recent past by gunmen alleged to be marauders. In one of the attacks last year, one of the district heads, including his entire family –were murdered in cold blood.
Also, Barkin Ladi township, which is 20 minutes from Heipang last week witnessed the brutal killing of 4 individuals on their farm by marauders.
At the time of filing this report, eyewitness confirmed that the soldiers had relocated to their base in Barakin Ladi.
