PLATEAU State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied rumours making the rounds that the national leadership of the party has cancelled the primaries of the PDP in the state which produced Senator Gyang Pwajok as the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer in 2015 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement yesterday, the stated Acting PDP chairman, Mr. Raymond Dabo said there is no iota of truth in the rumours being peddled around as due process was adhered to during and after the party’s primaries, which produced Pwajok as its flag bearer, which the national leadership of the party is aware.

This, Dabo said, is why the PDP has gone ahead with its campaigns around the state to thank Plateau people for their support to the party and all its candidates. The statement adds the general acceptance of the candidate of Pwajok as governor and Yilji Gomwark as his running mate across ethnic and religious divided has encouraged the party to oil its campaign machinery to drive home the party’s manifesto.
The statement further advised rumour peddlers to stop fabricating fictitious stories but rather join hands towards entrenching democratic principles in Plateau by promoting an all-inclusive government under the leadership of the PDP come 2015.
However, a PDP supporter told The Guardian that some opposition people to the PDP in the state have been jubilating that the PDP national headquarters has canceled Pwajok’s candidature, adding that the governorship flag bearer would now go to the southern zone.
The source that wanted to remain anonymous dispelled the rumor, saying that the belief cannot stand the test of time. “Our governorship candidate still remains Senator GNS Pwajok and it is too late to change him. In fact, both state and national PDP are not contemplating that. Go and rest. Nothing like that is going on. The issue has been decided since by both the state and national secretariats of the party all in favour of Pwajok’s candidature.”
But the immediate State Chairman of the party who resigned his appointment to contest the governorship of the party in the state, Dr. Haruna Dabin, told The Guardian on phone that the statement to any cancellation lies with the national secretariat and not the state.
“When has the state party become mouthpiece of the national secretariat if there is any complaint? The PDP in the state has no right whatsoever to issue a statement on that issue. It is the national leadership of the party that conducted the primaries in the state. It is not the state affair to issue any statement whether there is any cancellation or complaint whatsoever arising from the conduct of the primaries. It is purely that of the national secretariat of the party.”
