The Plateau state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party which has moved from one major crisis and political tension to another now heaves a sigh of relief after the National Working Committee (NWC) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party reconstitutes a new caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party in the state.
The party in a press statement released and signed by its national publicity secretary, Kola Olobondiyan on Wednesday 26th August, 2020 stated that the party reconstituted Plateau state and expanded Niger state caretaker committees.
This is coming at the heels of the resolutions of the governor Samuel Ortom-led reconcilation committee set up by the NWC to wade into the myraid of crises that have rocked the Plateau state chapter of the PDP for years which recommended that a fresh caretaker committee be reconstituted for Plateau state chapter of the PDP made up of three members from each of the two warring camps while the chairman and secretary from states outside Plateau as well as all cases and litigations pending in court to be withdrawn.

PDP Reconstitutes Plateau, Expands Niger Caretaker Committees
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), reconstitutes the State Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the Plateau state chapter of the party.
The NWC also approved the expansion of the Niger State Caretaker Committee of the party.
The action of the NWC which is pursuant to section 29 (2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) is consequent upon the dissolution of the Plateau State Caretaker Committee, today, Wednesday, August 26, 2020 and expansion of the membership of the Niger State Caretaker Committee respectively.
The Plateau State Caretaker Committee is charged with the sole responsibility of running the affairs of the party in Plateau state until a new executive committee is elected, for a period not exceeding 90 days (3 months).

In Niger, the State Caretaker Committee has been expanded to include Hon. Barr. Peter Nda Alkali Jiya, Hon. Mohammed Ricco and Hon. Garba Abara.

With the latest development, it is hoped that the new caretaker committee will be able to bring out workable solutions to all the issues bedevilling the party and restore hope to its members as the party prepares to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming political dispensation and recover from the nightmares of 2015 and 2019 general elections.
