The Plateau State government has denied receiving N75 billion from the federal government as its own share of Paris-London Club refund. Instead, the government said it has received only 25% of the said amount.

Rumours around the state indicated that the State government has received over N75 billion from the federal government over the Paris-London Club refund, a situation that has put the government under intense pressure from all stakeholders in and outside the state especially the State House of Assembly.

The state Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Tamwakat Weli, in a press conference yesterday in her office said that out of the quoted sum, the state government has just received a part of it which is N10.4 billion.

Weli also confirmed that the share for the state in that Paris club refund could be as much as N75 billion, “but as I speak we have not received the entire money only a part of it has come to our coffers.

She said, “Of the expected total refunds, only 25% of the amount has so far been released to the state in the sum of N10.4 billion for both the state and the 17 local government areas of the state.

Mrs. Weli also maintained that, “By 30th December, 2016, Government would have saved the sum of N68.5 million monthly which translated to N822.6 million per annum.”

She reiterated the commitment o the Gov Lalong-led administration to continue to give priority attention to the welfare of civil servants and pensioners in the state.
