News reaching ViewPointNigeria confirms that there was palpable tension this morning in Bukuru, Jos South, as three corpses were discovered in the early hours the morning (i.e., Tuesday 11th February 2013) in an abandoned building in the area.
An eye witness at the scene said one of the victims was a lady (identified as a widow), while the other two were young men aged between 25 and 28. All the deceased were said to have been found with gunshot wounds to various parts of their bodies and may have died as a result. Due to this development schools in the area were said to have closed down at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning for fear of reprisal attacks.
A proprietress for one of the schools in the area, Mrs. G Thomson, said the school was closed down to protect the children.

A proprietress for one of the schools in the area, Mrs. G Thomson, said the school was closed down to protect the children. “Our action is to safeguard the lives of our pupils and also to give confidence to the parents; but as the situation improves, we shall advise parents to bring back their wards; but surely not today,” she said. Parents who took their children to school were seen taking back their wards.
Commercial activities within Bukuru town were paralyzed as shop owners and other petty traders who were seen standing by their shops refused to open for business.
Residents of Bukuru who spoke with jounalists said they heard sporadic gunshots throughout Monday night. Efforts to get details of the incident from security agencies have been unsuccessfully. Calls to the Police Public Relation Officer in Plateau, Felicia Anslem, and the spokesperson of the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis, STF, Salisu Mustapha, did not go through as at the time this report.
