Reports reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Plateau State Government has in the periods 2007 – 2013 generated internal revenue to the tune of N31.07 billion.
This was development was made known to journalists yesterday by the Chairman of the state Revenue Service (PSIRS), Mr. Samuel Pam. He disclosed that the state currently generates approximately N1 billion monthly –a colossal amount by any standard.
He said: “We have been able to hit the one billion naira mark in our revenue collection having collected N1,002,618,873 in December, 2013. And hopefully we shall keep the one billion naira mark as our monthly collection”
Speaking further, he said the data collected over the past seven years shows that 2013 had the highest collection of N8.49 billion, while 2007 has the lowest of N1.88 billion. A steady and progressive increase of revenue collection over the years. The data shows yearly collection as follows: N2, 736, 335,063 (2008), N3,128,365,462 (2009), N3,3398,815,261 (2010), N4,52,622,617 (2011) and N6,927,812,288 (2012). He said the service was making more effort towards blocking all revenue loop holes in the state for more results to enable the state government meet up with its social responsibility to the people of the state.
Speaking on additional avenues to further boost the revenue generation capacity, he said the revenue board had begun consultations with various corporate organisations in the state e.g., hotels and business outfits to see how they can remit their taxes.
“We are even discussing with Hotels, schools and private hospitals and clinics on how to remit the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) of their staff to us. It is our belief that by the time all these people and institutions respond positively to our demands, we shall definitely keep the one billion naira mark if not surpass it,” he declared.
He called on the general public to remain patriotic to the government and pay all taxes to help it in its commitment to the people, warning that the service would not hesitate to prosecute any individual or corporate organisation that fail to pay taxes to the service.
