It is no longer news that Plateau youths are daily rising up against each other on social media. If you ask why, the answer is obvious. Nothing but politics! How did we get here? Why do we fight ourselves on behalf of a politician that care less about our future? Where did we get this mentality from and how can we reason together to emancipate ourselves from this death trap? I’m an active social media compliant and I see what’s trending everyday. The supporters of APC, PDP, ADP and other political parties are always at daggers drawn. They fire verbal missiles, use derogatory words, cast aspersions and paint each other black in support of or against their parties and politicians. How sad! Whatsapp is the platform that has the highest concentration of this crisis. Solutions are always proffered and peace sued but alas, It’s crystal clear that we are still getting it wrong as the conflicting parties are further pouring their fangs and venom. In the 21st century where youths are clamouring for leadership positions at all levels and in almost all continents, giving an impression of desperation and do-or-die politics is a dangerous precedent and has the tendency of leaving sour taste in the mouth. political party is just a platform and symbol. It doesn’t have all it takes to guarantee true freedom and prosperity. What matters most is the candidate vying for a particular position. How good is the candidate? Does he/she have something to offer? Are his/her political credentials rich enough to project him/her in positive light? What are his/her legacies? What are his/her action plans and can we trust him/her with our mandate? These are basically questions that we must ask in order to define our political future. What’s happening nowadays among the youths is one tragedy too many. They create leadership factions and violently disagree on many accounts. They feel if one is not in their party, such a person doesn’t have worth. How erroneous this impression can be!The primary message I would like to leave here is that, as youths, we must be careful and think twice. Nothing is more discouraging than seeing youths causing division because of politics. Think about this. Your future is promising and has golden opportunities in it. Set your priorities right, follow your dreams, believe in yourself, stop the war of words on social media and become true ambassadors of Plateau state. God bless us all.
