Nkiedonwhro Attack Bassa: STF to Investigate allegation that soldiers facilitated attack

Military Special Task Force (STF) code named Operation Safe Haven has said it will investigate the involvement of soldiers on duty at the Nkiedonwhro village of Bassa local government area of Plateau state when the villagers were attacked and 27 persons killed in their sleep by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders.

The Commander of the taskforce, Major General Anthony Atolagbe, who revealed this when he went for on-the-spot assessment of the attack in the village said the soldiers have been sent to the headquarters of the task force for proper investigation on how the attack took place in the village under their watch, especially that curfew was imposed on the village and there was supposed to be restriction on movement.

Meanwhile the Irigwe Development Association has said that following the attack on some communities in Bassa local government council of Plateau state a humanitarian situation looms in the area as women and children have been displaced while feeding is becoming impossible . “Our people cannot go to their farms anymore as a result of fear even as harvest is near .

The group through its Chairman, Sunday Abdu said it does not doubt the capacity of the nation’s military to safeguard the lives of the civilian population but demanded a prove of their existence. “We are not questioning their capacity or sagacity. “We are only saying that if we have securities in this country, let them prove it to us,” it said.
