The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has successfully inducted over 57 persons into her graduate membership cadre. This was achieved during an induction ceremony held at the ASUU Secretariat, University of Jos on Thursday 27th February 2025.
In his remark, the Head Department of Building Prof Jurbe Mwolwus commended the inductees for their resilience from their undergraduate days to their current transition into professionals. He urged them to imbibe the virtues of humility, honesty, integrity and good character.
“Having obtained the Bachelor of science degree, in Building; your obvious next challenge is that of the pursuit of professionalism in your chosen profession. As you strive for corporate membership of the Nigerian Institute of Building; this induction is a first step in that process.”
“As inductee’s of this great Institute and Profession, I can only urge you, to at all times by your conduct, exemplify the tenets of humility, honesty, integrity, and good character, all of which we have tried to instill in you during the course of your sojourn in this great Department on behalf of the entirety of this University.”
On his part, the Plateau State Chairman of NIOB Bldr Adeleye Adedeji stressed the significance of the theme of cremeony to inductees, the entire building professional community and the society at large, urging them to welcome innovation, keep tabs with evolving technologies, while also prioritizing safety and sustainability.
“Today, we focus on the theme, ‘The Budding Builder and the Society.’ This theme resonates deeply, as it highlights the crucial role you, as builders, will play in shaping the very fabric of our communities. You are not merely going to be constructing buildings; you are now going to be constructing the future.”
“As budding builders, you are tasked with creating sustainable, safe, and functional environments that enhances the lives of those who inhabit them. Your work will influence our cities, our towns, and our rural landscapes for generations to come.”
“Our Society places a great deal of trust in Builders. We expect professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. As you embark on your careers, remember the ethical responsibilities that come with your profession. Embrace innovation, stay abreast of evolving technologies, and always prioritize safety and sustainability.”
Special Guest at the Event, the Chief of Staff Government House, Bldr Jeremiah Sarmark, commended NIOB and the university of jos for the quality of inductees and called for more support for the induction process while pledging support for the progress of the profession.
Keynote Speaker at the event, Bldr Dr D.D Jambol provided an expose’ on who a builder is, his or her function and how society can be bettered through their activities. He stressed on the need for builders to protect the profession with integrity while ensuring that they remain dedicated, focused and hardworking.
Chairman of the occassion, Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Prof Ishaya Tanko, who was represented by the DVC Academics Prof Rahila Gowon, highlighted the journey of the Department of Building under his steadwardship as Vice Chancellor and announced that full academic and professional accreditation was recently achieved for the depertment of building, both with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Registered Builder of Nigeria (CORBON) through the collaboration of stakeholders, academic and non-staff of the university.
National President of NIOB, Bldr Alderton Ewa FNIOB in his speech stressed that ‘…building the builder…” was not merely making such an apprentist or a newcomer in the construction industry but the embodiment innovation and ambition.
Represented by the First Vice President of NIOB, Hon Bimbo Kolade, the NIOB President called for greater commitment in supporting and uplifting emerging builders.
“Let us as members of the profession commit to uplifting these emerging these emerging builders. Your support can make a difference. Let us build bridges, both literal and metaphorical – by creating pathways for these individuals to succeed.
He commended the Plateau State Chairman of NOIB, Bldr Adeleye Adedeji and his team for their leadership and mentorship, and for ensuring a successful induction ceremony.
Highlights of the event was administration of oath of induction, presentation of certificates of confirmation of induction and the presentation of special recognition awards to deserving graduates for their respective academic achievements.
