NIOB celebrates builders’ week in Jos with renewed call for the domestication of the Nigerian Building Code in Plateau State

The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) Plateau State Chapter has completed series of events to mark the 2025 Builders’ Day. The 4-day event which held from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th March 2025 with the theme ‘Builders’ Role im Effective Building Control and Regulatory Compliance for Sustainable Construction’ climax with an advocacy visit to the State Government .

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Governor of Plateau State, Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Her Excellency Ngo Mrs Josephine Piyo commended the philanthropic gesture of NIOB Plateau State chapter led by Bldr Adeleye Adedeji for the planned payment of JAMB fees for students of selected schools in Jos who intends to study Building in the university. The Deputy Governor also commended the NIOB Plateau State Chapter for being gender sensitive by way of involving more women in their activities. The Deputy Governor was later decorated with the NIOB Safety Jacket.

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Building Bldr Adeleye Adedeji FNIOB emphasized the need for the Plateau State Government to domesticate the National Building Code in Plateau State, alongside Regulatory compliance of the Building Code, Synergy among the Built environment professionals, elimination of sharp practices and quackery in the construction industry on the Plateau by ensuring that only registered builders are engaged.

Highlights of the 4-day event include live radio engagement on Rythm 93.7 FM Jos on Monday 10th March 2025 led by the State Vice Chairman NIOB Bldr Mrs Grace Wang MNIOB and other EXCO members, followed by visits to Trinity Missionary College Pankshin, GSS West of Mines Jos, GSS Rot Noron and Christian Royal College Sabon-Barki, Jos for the ‘Catch them young Initiative, led by NIOB former Chairman Bldr Kandi Chingle, State Publicity Secretary, Bldr Gyok Matthew and State Assistant Secretary Bldr Martind Dung and State Chairman Bldr Adeleye Adedeji respectively on Wednesday.

The members of the institute also made a visit to a residential estate building project at Rantiya and a 4 storey building shopping complex construction project at Tafawa Balewa in Jos respectively.

The NIOB State Chairman also led a delegation on a visit to the office of the Honorable Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Arch Sylvanus Dongtoe on the 12th of March, after which they proceeded for a media briefing at the Plateau Radio Television on Thursday 13th March 2025.
