As Nigeria celebrate its 54 years of independence, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State said Nigeria would overcome the challenges the country is passing through and emerge a stronger and better nation.

Jang stated this in Jos at a church service to mark the nation’s 54th Independence.

According to him, what the country was going through was not entirely new as other countries had experienced it.

“At 54, when people say that 54 years is not 54 days, but I say that in the life of a nation we are just beginning; some nations are 150 to 200 years.

“And these nations that today are 150 to 200 years and above went through exactly what Nigeria is going through today; I see Nigeria as a mighty and great nation that would lead the world.

The governor stated that the Nigerian military including him, in the past fought to keep the country as one entity, pointing out that the present military was still committed to the course.

Jang maintained that, so many people had paid the supreme price in the course of protecting the country but assured that victory would surely come.

“We must carry our heads high and beat our chest and be proud that we are Nigerians, and if we are Nigerians, we must continue keep this nation as one.

“Boko Haram must be defeated; God allows certain things to happen so that he would take his glory. He stressed.

Jang commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s efforts saying that God knows the kind of leaders he gives to lead his people per time.

”We pray that God will continue to preserve him and to give him the wisdom to continue to solve the numerous problems that this country is going through.

”As we celebrate the 54 Independence, we must not forget those who have paid the supreme price while protecting our dear country. He urged.

In his message, President, Church Of Christ In Nations (COCIN), Dr. Dachollom Datiri said country was going through its challenges because of irresponsible leadership.

Datiri defined a responsible leader as one who is accountable for all the resources that God has placed in his hands.

The COCIN president read different scriptures including Hebrews 13: 18 and urged leaders to win the people’s trust by honest, trusted and reliable.
