Senator Representing Plateau North in the National Assembly and Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defense Sen. Istifanus Dung Gyang says the expectations of Eldorado that greeted the attainment of Nigeria’s independence on October 1, 1960 is still long in waiting when contrasted with nations that were age mates of Nigeria at independence which have advanced and developed while Nigeria lags behind on all fronts and indices of development.

Gyang in a Press Statement signed and issued to Journalists in Jos by his Media Aide Hon. Musa Ashoms noted that the twin maladies of insecurity and leadership deficit have plagued Nigeria so much such that citizens are loosing faith in the capacity of government to secure them against terrorists especially in the North Central, North East and North West where the terrorists are holding sway.

The Lawmaker also said despite the obvious challenges, “the independence anniversary is an opportunity to salute the enterprising nature of Nigerian citizens who have despite the negatives, shown and displayed resilience and never say die attitude and fortitude in their quest to make live worth living on the farm, in the market, in the professions, in small businesses, trade and transportation, in estate, as artisans, workers in the public and private sectors, etc. Also worthy of mention are the armed forces and security agencies for their service and sacrifice to the nation”

Senator Gyang added that Nigerians in Diaspora have done the nation proud by distinguishing themselves as global experts in rare fields and professios in the United Sttes, UK, etc. This too is worth celebrating.

He expresses optimism that although Nigeria may appear helpless at the moment but certainly not hopeless.

“Nigerians have a responsibility to give the nation a nationalistic, transformational and developmental leader/leadership in order to make real the much needed turn around in the economy, infrastructure, good governance, etc. Consequently, the choice of leadership in the 2023 elections is an opportunity that citizens must be deliberate and definite about,
