Youth leaders representing various Niger Delta organisations in the Federal Capital Territory have come together under royal auspices to reject divisive tactics and fake protest announcements aimed at the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief (Dr.) Samuel Ogbuku, while committing to a unified, peaceful push for regional progress.
The resolution came in a communiqué from an emergency townhall convened by His Royal Highness Dr. Selky Kile Toroughedi Eyewei V, Eyewei of Azuzuama Kingdom and Amananawei of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the FCT, held on January 21, 2026, at his palace in Life-Camp, Abuja.
Attending groups — including PANDEF FCT Youth Wing, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) FCT/Northern Nigeria Chapter, South-Wing MEND Abuja Base, Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Abuja, and Ijaw Community Association Abuja — unanimously condemned recent unauthorised social media posts and flyers falsely claiming a planned demonstration against Dr. Ogbuku.

In the document, the organisations stressed:
- Shared commitment to the development, fair representation, and welfare of Niger Delta people, urging all groups to present a single, stronger voice instead of fragmented efforts.
- Total rejection of subversive behaviours such as betrayal, smear campaigns, profiteering from discord, or spreading inflammatory content that misrepresents the region.
- Firm disavowal of violence, unlawful protests, or anything that could disrupt public peace, with advocacy limited to constructive channels like policy engagement, dialogue, and credible media outreach.
- Creation of the FCT Niger Delta Unified Front — a new coordinating platform with representatives from each group — to harmonise activities, share resources, plan joint events, and communicate as one body with government, security agencies, and the public.
- Dedication to promoting peace, mutual respect, and a positive image of the Niger Delta community in Abuja and beyond.
The meeting was triggered by misleading publications that had already been debunked by PANDEF’s FCT chapter as acts of impersonation designed to sow discord.
Participants lauded HRH Dr. Selky Kile Toroughedi Eyewei V for his timely fatherly guidance and for hosting the reconciliatory forum, adopting unity as their enduring guiding value.
The communiqué will be circulated to security services, NDDC leadership, the Presidential Amnesty Programme, and key Niger Delta figures to demonstrate the groups’ peaceful stance and collective focus on genuine advancement for the region.
Signed by the respective leaders in the royal presence, the statement marks a deliberate move toward collaboration over confrontation among Niger Delta youth in the nation’s capital.
