THE new commissioner of Police posted to Plateau State has assumed office. He is Mr. Nasiru Disu Oki. Before his posting to the Plateau State Command; he was the Commissioner of Police, Medical at the Lagos State Command of Nigeria Police.

Briefing newsmen at the Police Headquarters in Jos yesterday the new CP said, he would consolidate on the existing peace process already laid by his predecessor on the Plateau.

He added that, “I know one very serious issue that is on ground which is the issue of Fulani herdsmen and the natives who have been quarrelling. We will try our best to ensure that we dialogue with them towards bringing lasting peace and solution to the problem by God’s grace.

“We are equally going to tackle crime and criminality in Plateau State and ensure that robbery and very heinous crimes are stopped. We have mapped out strategy and we will follow it judiciously to ensure that we get it right,” Oki assured.

The new police boss however, thanked the Plateau State government for the support given to his predecessor and the command and promised to collaborate with the state government through synergy for him to achieve the desired goals of combating crime in the state.

The Commissioner said his doors are wide open and promised journalists a cordial working relationship and enjoined them to verify facts from either the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) or him if necessary, before going to press.

Responding on behalf of journalists in the state, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Katdapba Gobum, welcomed the new CP and promised his colleagues cooperation and support for him to achieve what he has come to do.

Meanwhile, he advised the new commissioner to sensitize most importantly, the junior cadre on the need to create an enduring synergy with the press for them to achieve the peace that required.
