She added that the charges include possession, trading and trafficking of illicit drugs and that the convictions were all at the instance of the Federal High Court in Jos.
Madubuike attributed the high use of illicit drugs in the state to peer group influence and broken homes. She said “Most of those convicted at the High court are mainly youths with ages ranging between 20 and 41 years. Most of these youths give in to pressure, they want to be and act like their peers that use drugs, so they fall prey to this vice of using drugs; or in a bid to make quick cash, sell or traffic the drugs”.
The commander called on the youths to stop engaging in the sale or intake of illicit drugs as it poses a danger to their health and the society in general. She called on the public to join hands with the NDLEA as it strives to rid the society of hard drugs that contributes to most crimes witnessed lately. Madubuike said “In order to do way with crime in our society, we need to do away with illicit drugs and make Plateau a drug-free state”.
