The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called on the Plateau state Government to enact laws banning the local drink called “goskolo”.

Plateau state Principal Staff Officer of the organization, Mr Bello Mumuni stated so at an awareness campaign on drug abuse marking International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The event which was organised by the state branch of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in collaboration with Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) took place in Jos the Plateau state capital.

Mumuni stated that NDLEA does not have the power to make such laws as the prerogative falls on the Government. He said that it was sad that the nation has moved from a transit of illicit drugs to a nation of consumption.

Responding, the state NMA Chairman, Dr Pokop Bupwatda stated that the organization will strive to ensure that issues which pose danger to the society are addressed.

The NUJ Chairman, Mr Yakubu Taddy represented by Mr Ben Mitu on his part stated that the association will work in collaboration with the NMA to add value to the society. He said that the collaboration has been effective and will remain so.
