The National Assembly has removed Kano and Plateau states as beneficiaries of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), ViewPointNigeria has exclusively gathered.
The Senate had on October 20 during the third reading of the bill included Kano and Plateau states as beneficiaries of the proposed commission. The commission is tasked with the responsibility of rebuilding the North-East region after years of destruction by activities of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Our correspondent gathered that the two states were removed during Tuesday hearing of the harmonisation/ conference committee of Senate and House of Representatives.
It was gathered that the hearing attended by two Senators and six Reps unanimously agreed to expunge the two states.
A source said the removal was unanimously agreed upon during the conference hearing chaired by the Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume.
“We saw it coming since day one but we let it go when our colleagues pushed for it during the third reading of the bill at the Senate. The harmonisation committee have done the right thing, “he said.
When contacted, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Special Duties, Senator Abdulaziz Murtala Nyako confirmed the removal of the two states.
