It would be recalled that the PLASU, since its constitution 9 years ago has been unable to graduate a single student or have its courses accredited, due to several reasons of academic calendar disruption, power play and negligence. Several students who enrolled at the flagship University have had their hopes and dreams dashed.
A few of the students who spoke to ViewPointNigeria expressed their worry, frustration and hopelessness at the situation, some of them say their futures appear bleak and dark becuase they do not know when they may graduate. Some said, they came into the University as boys, but have now become men (but still don’t have certificates to show for it). Some argue that for the period of the 9 years that they have been enrolled at the University, they could have gone on to even bag PhDs. They lamented the flagrant waste of opportunity and human capital, calling for immediate redress.
It would be recalled that these students, on 3rd November 2014 undertook a massive demonstration, protesting the suspension of VC over what was termed “Inappropriate behaviour”. The students boycotted their exams and prevented access to the university. They called for his immediate reinstatement and the recommencement of full academic activities.
Following the paid newspaper advertisements which followed the entire saga, it appears the NUC has decided to respond to crisis -hence this move.
