Mrs Tabitha Salawu in collaboration with Afri Foundation Jos has offered scholarship to one hundred and ninety two orphaned girls from ten Senior Secondary Schools in Barkin Ladi Local Government Council of Plateau. The scholarship which is worth N2.6 million will ensure that the girls enrol for their West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) exams.
The initiator of the gesture, Mrs Tabitha Salawu who is the daughter of the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe focused on girls in the locality who were affected by incessant attacks and were considering dropping out from school.

Mrs Sarah Ochekpe who was represented by Mr Gad Peter called on the girls to make good use of the opportunity offered them and study hard to pass their examination. She said that is the only way by which others will be encouraged to extend similar gesture to people in need. The Minister also advised the girls to shun immoral behaviours which could put their future in jeopardy while calling on them to put all their trust in God and believe that the incessant attacks on their communities will be a thing of the past.
Professor Nelson Ochekpe in a welcome address called on parents ro send their children to school as that will be the best legacy bequeathed on them. The traditional ruler of the area Dagwom Rei Foron, Da Bulus Bot appreciated the numerous gestures extended to his community by the Ochekpe family. He said projects benefited by his locality from the Ochekpes include health and education. The people of the community also showed their appreciation to the family.
Principals of the various schools received the cheques on behalf of the students. Mr Choji Jaflanda who is the principal of Government College Foron, spoke on behalf of other principals and thanked the family for the support and stated that they will not disappoint the donor.
The member representing Barkin Ladi in the State house of assembly, Mrs Kaneng Gyang Fulani and Chairperson of Teachers Service Commission, Mrs Mary Dusu also spoke and showed their appreciations.
