News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that the Plateau state Government has scored another milestone in the area of internal revenue generation. The Government advised that it had raised more than N6.1 billion between the periods January to September 2013.

Speaking to newsmen in Jos, the Chairman of Plateau State revenue generation board Mr. Sam Pam said that the bulk of the money realised was from pay-as-you-earn PAYE. He said N5.02 billion of the revenue was collect4ed by staff of the revenue service while ministries, other departments and government parastatals generated approximately N1.09 billion.

Commenting on how this high revenue generation was achieved, he said “we opened up several tax-pay points for tax payers across the state to ease difficulties in tax payments. Doing this enabled us to eliminate the usual bottle-necks and move towards a smooth revenue collection strategy. And in view of this, we are on course to achieve our revenue collection target of N9 billion by the end of the year.

Making a plea to Plateau citizens, he enjoined people to live up to their responsibility of paying their taxes, saying that it is a civic duty which we should not neglect. And that just like government has demonstrated prudence with the meagre state resources, all proceeds from the tax shall be spent judiciously.
