Following the gruesome murder of over 30 people in Shonongh village of Riyom LGA, the corpse if the 30 dead people were gathered in village and given mass burial, amidst uncosolable relatives and survivors of the attack. Several mothers were said to have been killed, including their helpless children. Eleven of bodies were burnt beyond recognition and could only be identified based on the houses where they were picked up.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the burial, a community leader, Mr. Iliya Vomagai said the attackers came at approximately 9:00 am, when most of men who could have defended the area had gone to their farms. He said the assailants descended on the women, children and the aged at home, and killed them gruesomely with their swords and guns, adding that the appprox. 25 people who survived did so with deep cuts, gun shots and broken bones.

This development marks another low point for peace efforts on the Plateau and people continue to wonder how all these attacks can still be happening even when the STF are on ground in the areas.
