On 27th March, 2016 ViewPointNigeria reported of immense logging activity by a Chinese firm at the Pandam Game Reserve, see: http://www.viewpointnigeria.com/8232-2/.

Following the release of the news article, the Plateau State Government disputed the reports saying the Pandam game reserve remains on it agenda for redevelopment and that no logging activity was ongoing.

However the Chinese firm in the middle of the controversy has since been brandishing several documents, claiming to be evidence of a permit issued to it,  to lumber/log the reserve.

Even though these documents are yet to be verified by our reporter, information reaching us indicates that massive swathes of the reserve are now being lumbered and rare flora and fauna which are unique to the area Namu area has now been destroyed.

Speaking to one of the leaders of the Jepjan community about the development, he expressed immense disappointment, saying “how can a state which claims to be the home of peace and tourism be the same one that is trying to scuttle its own tourist potentials? – this is ironic”. He said, all their efforts to prevail on authorities to halt this ecological disaster has proven abortive and that their last resort is to appeal to all lovers of the environment and ecology to prevail on the relevant authorities to halt the disaster.
