Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has approved the dissolution of Transition Committees of the Local Governments in Plateau with effect from today Thursday 29th June 2017.
This was made known through a communique released by the Directorate of Press & Public Affairs to the governor of Plateau state today Thursday 29th June 2017.
All Chairmen and Management Committee members have been directed to hand over the running of affairs of the Local Governments to Director of Personnel Management pending further actions in line with the Nigerian constitution.
The full statement read:
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has approved the dissolution of the existing Local Government Transition Committees with effect from Thursday the 29th of June, 2017.
The Chairmen and Management Committee Members are to immediately hand over the running of affairs of the Local Government Councils to the Directors of Personnel Management pending further actions in line with the provision of law. It will be recalled that the Executive Governor had in exercise of his Powers under the Edict providing for the establishment and administration of the Local Government Councils 2005 as Amended and subject to the ratification of the House of Assembly constituted the Management Committees whose tenure expired by effluxion of time on the 28th of June, 2017.
The Executive Governor wishes to express his profound appreciation to all members of the dissolved Council Management Committees for their selfless service in the two years of their stewardship. He further wished them the best in all their endeavours and urges them to be available in the future for service when called upon.

It will be recalled that the state House of Assembly recently passed a legislation for the reconstitution of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, making analyst to speculate that elections may already be in the offing. This bold move by Governor Lalong is met with applause and approbation by many Plateau citizens.
