As the conflict in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level continues to divide members of the party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has continued to gain, as PDP members continue to decamp to the APC.
Owing to the conflict, it is alleged that the Chairman of the APC in Plateau State, has been able to woo heavy weights, like Senator Joshua Dariye, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District at the higher chambers of the National Assembly and another heavy weight from the Southern zone (who shall remain nameless for now) to the APC fold.
Reports have it that, the said elder statesman from the Southern zone already indicated his interest to decamp from the PDP to the APC a month ago and has already started processing this at his membership at his local ward.
For Chief Senator Dariye, who decamped on the floor of the House yesterday to the APC, taking advantage of the provisions of Section 68(g) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, did not come to the people of the state as a surprise as Chief Dariye’s closeness to Chairman Latep has never been in doubt.
The Section in part reads: “A member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives shall vacate his seat in the house of which he is a member if—
“being a person whose election to the House was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected;
“Provided that his membership of the latter political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored;…”
Speaking on the development with journalists in Jos, political analysts in Plateau State, hailed the APC Chairman, Hon. Latep Dabang for his ability to pull the duo on board the APC Cruise Ship.
They said, “This is a major feat achieved by the Chairman, as it simply announces the burial of the PDP in the state”.
Adding that, “We believe the noise making of the PDP in the state will soon come to an end!”
