The late senator’s wife inaugurated the projects at the request of Pwajok in memory of his predecessor who died as a result of a stampede on 8 July 2012 when gunmen attacked mourners in Bachit Plateau state during a funeral service.
The projects which include four health centres were undertaken by the office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) comprising of a Management Care Ward and Primary Health Care (PHC) centre facility at the Christian Hospital Vom as well as a PHC centre at Fan-Loh and Bisichi in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau. A block of three classrooms, VIP toilets and boreholes at the Jos Township primary school was also inaugurated.
Senator Pwajok applauded his predecessor for his determination in leaving lasting legacies and urged beneficiaries of the projects to maintain them. He promised to pay more attention to water supply so as to minimise the outbreak of cholera and other environmental health related issues associated with the consumption of contaminated water.
Mrs Dantong in a remark expressed her delight seeing the completion of the projects initiated by her husband and called on politicians to ensure they personally supervise projects in their constituencies. She called for more projects to be done at the Christian Hospital Vom where her late husband served as Chief Medical Director (CMD) for 25 years before joining politics. Dantong said the dream of her husband before he died was to see that the hospital becoming a teaching hospital.
It will be recalled that Late Senator Dantong died alongside others while on a mass burial for members of his constituency that were killed by gunmen. Senator Pwajok was eventually elected to replace him in the senate.
